Positive Birth Movement Oxford

I am the voluntary co-ordinator of Positive Birth Movement Oxford, along with local midwife Katja Shipp. The Positive Birth Movement is a grassroots movement to offer positivity about childbirth via a global network of free Positive Birth groups, linked up by social media; our group is hosted by Oxford NCT.

Positive Birth Movement Oxford is for anyone who is interested in a positive approach to birth. A positive birth means:

  • women are where they want to be
  • choices are informed by reality not fear
  • women are listened to and treated with respect and dignity
  • mothers are empowered and enriched
  • memories are warm and proud

So it doesn’t matter what type of birth you are planning or what your medical history is, this is for everyone!

We welcome pregnant women, partners, new parents, doulas, midwives and others with an interest in birth, and aim to form a positive and supportive community. We follow the monthly discussion themes from the international Positive Birth Movement so we are thinking about birth-related topics along with other positive birthers around the world.

‘Thank you for the wonderful support throughout my pregnancy which culminated in a lovely, positive induction (& 10 lb baby!!). Such a nurturing group offering inspiration, love, care, practical information and always great cake!!’ – Katie

‘It really helped to take the fear factor away from birth’ – Rebecca

‘Thank you to all the wonderful women who come along to the group for sharing your stories and wisdom which helped me feel calm and confident about childbirth.’ – Gemma

Positive Birth Movement Oxford meets on the first Friday of the month from 7.30 to 9.30 pm in a private home. The meetings are free to attend but we welcome donations in our NCT charity collection tin.
